Patch 2.2 has an internal build undergoing QA testing. Nothing is confirmed until it’s actually in, but they have a hangar ready ship, a flyable ship, physicalized EVA, reputation changes in Crusader, and some under the hood improvements. Lobby system is still being worked out, but is getting close to seeing a first look.
Package split is on Sunday Feb 14th. Existing backers can grab a package for $40 to give to a friend or themselves.
New concepts are being worked on which we’ll know about in a couple months.
A design meeting took place about ‘a ship we’ve been waiting for’.
Redeemer is lower on the queue and scheduled for work in the later part of the year.
There are no plans for eating as a mechanic at this point because eating mechanics are not fun, but subject to change.
Subscriber flair comes out today feature a Mustang Beta model. Next series will feature space plants!
CIG would like to have a system where you buy a physical item like a T-shirt or poster and get the same one in game.
No update on CitCon 2016 other than Sandi signing some papers.
Starfarer will go on sale again when it comes into the hangar.
They would like to do model kits for ships in Star Citizen, but there are no plans for that any time soon.
A prototype for shopping is currently being tested. If all goes well it will begin the process of integrating it into the game.
Ship status page is still being worked on. Turbulent have a lot on their plate.
Org 2.0 doesn’t have much info to release, but Ben has seen the mockups and it looks great so far.
No plans for Canadian Conventions this year because the focus on game development.
No plans for Pax Australia or many other conventions for the same reason.
They will be in Germany for 3 weeks for Gamecom and be at the floor.
Ben and Lando made a message for the community that they appreciate their support in defending the project, but let the project speak for itself rather than insulting or arguing with people to death about what is better.
Nothing on the Endeavour as it’s a recent concept ship.
New corvette has manpower assigned to it and will begin production soon.
Female character models are coming along, they’re working on all character models to integrate new tech.
Grey cat may go on sale this weekend for half off, but no promises.
4:00 on the countdown.
They’re live, with no audio again.
I see Sandi, Ben, Alexis, Disco, and Justin
And now they have audio.
Week in Review! Ben: lots of work on 2.2. They’ve got an internal build that QA is testing.
Once the internal build is ready, it’ll go to PTU. Big things in this patch: hangar ready ship, flyable ship, physicalized EVA, some reputation changes in Crusader, and some other under the hood stuff.
We’ll find out more about it as they finalize it. Might also be some new lobby system stuff.
Package split happens on Valentines day. If you don’t have a Star Citizen package, get one now.
They’ve worked on new ship concepts which we’ll find out about in the coming months.
Design meeting yesterday about a ‘ship we’ve been waiting for’
Job interviews for marketing artist and community manager.
Started dieting again as well.
[What did you have for lunch this week?] Nothing! Protein bars and protein shakes. No carbs. They’re on a no carbs no sugar diet.
Alexis’ week: Ben and Alexis watched the Wing Commander movie yesterday. Ben gave facts the entire time. Like he did when he was on The Relay’s movie night. It was great. It’s on youtube. Go watch it.
Sandi’s wearing sunglasses cause her eyes are sensitive.
And question time!
Or maybe not question time. Alexis’ week. Planning for an upcoming event type thing that she can’t talk about.
Planning some cool merchandise. New mousepad design, SQ42 dogtags. Hoping for those to pre order before the end of the month.
Chris has been in Germany. There was an AI summit in Frankfurt. He’s been AI’ing.
Disco got new glasses.
There are two new QA people in LA, including one who’s dedicated to ship balance.
They’re both very enthusiastic apparently. They’ll be on the show later.
Justins’ gonna go to red lobster for Valentines day.
Question time! Questions from the peanut gallery!
(Disco said that, not me)
[Where is the Redeemer in the list of ships to be worked on?] Not close. It’s further down the line. It’s scheduled to be dealt with later in the year, but it’s not a priority
[Space food. Gameplay for kitchens on ships?] Other than Mixmaster on the Starliner right now, there’s no specific food based stuff. They talked about it early on, eating is realistic, but not really fun.
In Ultima 4 you had to feed your party, and the most efficient way to do it was to just buy sticks of butter, and feed them sticks of butter.
[Can I get a job as a janitor?] Check CIG jobs section?
Sneak Peek this week was a look at the Starfarer – some LOD work, some interior work on the livvery, etc…
The third image was a look out the rear observation mirror, looking over the rest of the ship.
The window is new; it was added this week.
‘Well have to do more with the ship design, cause it’s definitely more than just a freighter’
Disco wants FPS battles inside Starfarers.
[Ben bobblehead?] they’re laughing at Hennessy. This question has been dropped. Subscriber flair comes out today though. It’s the Mustang Beta model. Next month they start a new series. Next month, starting a ‘space plants’ series. Team from Behaviour went through the suggestions thread. Along with the space plants, they’ll also be releasing the ‘space plant’ which was one of the stretch goal rewards.
[Updates on cross chassis downgrade?] Ben just checked with Turbulent. It shouldn’t be too long. Turbulent have a long list of things to do.
There are cross-grades and down-grades on the list of things for Turbulent.
[Updates on Cit Con 2016?] Sandi will check on it, make sure the papers are signed, and they’ll let us know.
They say ‘don’t ask when questions’ not because they hate the question, but because they can’t answer it.
[Will the Starfarer be on sale again?] yes. When it goes hangar ready.
[Model kits for ships?] Potentially down the line, but not at the moment.
Jake Ross has arrived.
He’s here doing Microsoft project training, gonna come hang out on RtV instead of eating lunch.
Ben’s pendant is from the Wing Commander movie that was sold around when the movie came out.
[Persistence?] In the process of updating the persistence schedule. 2.3 is coming out fairly soon, after 2.2… in the process of figuring out what parts of persistence they want to come online when.
Working with Turbulent on that, on the platform side, and WyrmByte.
They’re having to revamp lots of old code, things like crab and fish that came on early in the project.
[Shopping?] Doing the same with shopping. There’s a design order, figuring out what parts to release when. Buying and Selling, remote storage, inventory, etc… Shopping’s another thing with lots of people around the company working on it.
A fan just dropped off krispy kream doughnuts and then ran away.
People not on diets have run out to eat doughnuts, and Lando is crying now.
Shopping! People at Behaviour working on UI stuff, Zane is overseeing that. Backend is being developed in Austin, there’s a good prototype working that they can show off in a future AtV. Working on the next bits of that, turning the prototype to in game.
[Arena Commander shirt ingame?] Absolutely. All the logos and brands created for the game are all useable. They’ve got polos for Cubby Blast logos, so there’ll probably be plenty of in-game branded apparel.
Talking about a system where if you buy a shirt IRL, you might also get one in-game.
[Updated ship status page?] It’s on the list for Turbulent. There’s a LOT that Turbulent does. They do more than just the website. Lots of work with the backend, with the launcher, the starmap, etc…
Same idea for the shirts is in the works for posters – buy a real one, get a digital one.
[Orgs 2.0?] It’s also in the works, but they’ve seen a mockup of it. Whole new bespoke system, not based on Vanilla.
[Landing and takeoff from big ships?] They’ve shown it before. You see ships taking off and landing in the Morrow tour. Probably have an option between full control or auto land, etc…
[Deadpool?] Yes. Jake Ross is seeing it tonight at the Chinese theater.
Ross and Lando are talking about Fantastic Four.
[Canadian Convention?] There was a Bar Citizen in Montreal last week. They’ll show off pictures next AtV. Hopefully do that again soon. 30-40 people, including people from Turbulent and Behaviour. Skyped in for questions, etc… Long term, this year they’re working on not doing many conventions, they want to finish SQ42, get Star Citizen having a whole universe to explore. Once that’s done, they’ll do a world tour, attend tons of conventions.
[Argo fit in Caterpillar?] Need to build the caterpillar first… not sure about the Argo, but Ben was in a meeting about what ships will fit in the Caterpillar. It was about a ‘new ship’, and how many of that new ship will fit in the pillar.
[What will you do after the game is complete?] Ben’s gonna settle down somewhere in North America, stay out of history’s way.
Jake’s favourite ship is the Herald, wants to be an info runner.
There’s SQ42, Star Citizen, SQ42-2, SQ42-3, it’s going to be going for a long time.
Disco wants to create in-verse broadcast content.
[CIG do freefly, see who’s the best pilot?] They’re working on an idea around that.
There was an NA playtest last week. Austin and LA did some testing.
The tests are weekly, focus on specific things. Try to focus on specific ships or things to do
Did an Idris playtest last week as well. No video of it though.
[Make ICC stellar surveyor sticker available for purchase?] It’s not a sticker, it’s a patch. It’s not in store, but they’ll bring it back eventually.
Ben and Lando are a sentient pile of rats in shirts.
[Other roles for the Starfarer?] Nothing in mind yet. Working on the base and the gemini first.
Lando wants people to race the stock Starfarer.
[Was it an internal joke that you’re splitting up the packages on Valentines day?] Yes. Pretty much.
[Anything you wish the Community would do less / more of?] Less fighting with people who don’t get Star Citizen. Be more welcoming. It’s just a small percentage, but if there’s a clickbait article, just take it in stride. They’re our future wingmen. Be inclusive, rather than devisive.
They appreciate the defending of it, but it’d be good to defend it without getting into internet arguments. It’s a dense project, easily misunderstood.
Big budget, open development, people who follow it have the IV for all the information. People that don’t follow it… put yourself in their shoes. It’s hard to keep track of everything sometimes.
Disco would rather people be passionate and disagree, than be apathetic. Passion is good.
Nothing on the Endeavour since the concept, it’s the back of the line. It’s Ben’s favourite ship, and he loves it, but it doesn’t make sense to prioritize it now.
[New Corvette limited quantity?] No decision on that yet. They’ve had some talks about it, it’s getting its formal ‘go’ from Designers to artists next week. Not sure who the artist is yet though.
The BBC Click segment that filmed about CIG is going live on BBC Tomorrow. Check local listings for it, should be good. Should air ~1:30am CIG time?
And there’ll be a longer segment online next week.
New guys have shown up. QA testers.
Talking to the two QA guys, where they came from, etc…
They’re the new QA team, working on helping the devs in house, and supporting Austin and UK teams.
QA spooling up in all three studios, getting ready to put one in Frankfurt as well.
Behaviour are working on a SC 2.0 Manual. David just finished laying out Jump Point vol. 2, working on ship blueprints as well, and then as well as the monthly jump point, they’re also working on the ‘making of’ book, and the next manual, all stuff that’ll go to print eventually.
[Changes to the HUDs?] None of the HUDs are finished. Dan Kamensky is working on the Hornet HUD.
For the longest time, there was only one Zane Bien; he’s now leading a whole team of Zanes to make more HUDs faster.
Nothing in the game is locked in or finished yet.
There’ll be a segment in AtV about how they’re improving the Bishop senate speech soon too.
[Update on Female models?] No update. They’ve seen them in Shotgun, but not sure how far they are to in-game. All models are being completely redone.Lots of pants in Shotgun this week.
Austin have put up 300 art things of pants this week apparently.
Chris still hates Cargo pants though.
Character models are being redone because of updates to the skeleton.
[9th revision of the character model?] Haven’t been counting, but that’s game development. Constantly iterating and refining. Only constant in game development is change.
[Can characters have kilts?] Haven’t seen any specifically, probably wouldn’t work well in EVA…
[EVA system?] Shooting for 2.2, in testing now, see if it works.
[PAX Australia?] Not this year.
[Energy weapons for Freelancer?] There will be ones in the future.
[Own properties in SC? Build empires?] Not necessarily at launch, but it is a long-term plan.
[Germany this year?] Yes. Later this year, in Europe for 3 weeks. Gamescom, on the floor the whole time, then shooting video in Frankfurt, then in Manchester.
[Cheesesteaks last week?] They were eaten.
[Updates on mousepads?] Yes. Looking at doing a new design. Something ‘new’ that people would like.
[Greycat still going on sale?] They talked about possibly lowering the price, they’ll try to remember to do that right now. They forgot about it.
Right now it’s 15,000 UEC, they’re gonna lower it to half price for this weekend.
If they can get a hold of Turbulent, they’ll see if they can do it.
And with that, that’s it! The episode is done.
Next week, 10 for the Developers with Randy Vasquez and Vince. No Bugsmashers next week.
Hear more about 2.2 next week as it gets closer to PTU
