Jared Huckaby(JH): Hey everybody and welcome to another edition of Citizens of the Stars, our weekly look at the amazing content creations made by you, the Star Citizen community. To start us off this week, we’re going to throw it to Tyler Nolin and this week’s Citizen’s Spotlight.
Tyler Nolin(TN): Hey everyone and welcome to another edition of Citizen Spotlight, where we get to talk to some of the amazing content creators within the Star CItizen community, joining me this week is Youtuber Alysianah. Hey Alysianah, thank you for joining me today.
Alysianah(A): Hi Tyler, thank you for having me.
TN: You’ve had a gaming blog for over a decade, why did you start making Star Citizen videos?
A: Well, I’ve been gaming primarily doing MMOs for a really long time and I always blog about my adventures and so I started including pictures of Star Citizen but the scope and fidelity is really just hard to explain I think in words and to be captured in a still photograph. So I wanted people to really understand what I was experiencing this early in the game’s development life cycle so I wanted to include video.
TN: Can you tell the viewers what kind of content people can expect to see on your YouTube page.
A: I primarily do two shows, one is Casual Citizen which is ship reviews, game mechanics, talks about the content that’s currently in the Alpha or what’s upcoming. Then I do something a little quirkier called the Star Citizen Nightbus which is a lot of op ed lore and I’ve recently started doing some fan fiction set in the Star Citizen universe.
TN: I’m looking forward to future episodes, one last question before we go, what is your favourite ship so far.
A: It’s going to be the ship I purchased last which is the 890 Jump.
TN: That’s an excellent choice, thanks again for taking the time to talk to me today.
A: Thank you for having me.
TN: That’s all for Citizen Spotlight, let’s see what’s going on this week in Star Citizen.
Tyler Witkin(TW): Hey everyone and welcome to another installment of Quantum Questions where we put a developer in the hotseat to answer as many questions as they can in under two minutes. Joining us this week from Austin, Texas is 3D Modeler Josh Coons. Josh, how’re you doing?
Josh Coons(JC): Hi, I’m doing swell, Tyler.
TW: Ok, so how do you think you’re going to do today?
JC: On a scale from 1-10 probably… 7.63. Maybe a 5, I don’t know.
TW: Ok, that is very specific. So let’s go ahead and find out how you’re actually going to do, I’ve got two minutes on the clock starting now. What is your name and what do you do?
JC: Josh Coons, 3D Modeler.
TW: What are some of the ships that you have worked on while at CIG?
JC: Drake Cutlass, Constellation, Mustang Delta.
TW: Now outside of working at CIG, I understand you also work as an engineer at Drake Interplanetary. What is that like?
JC: Yeah, that’s just on the side. A little extra coin, we makes ships for pirates and.. yeah, just pirates.
TW: So what are you working on right now?
JC: I’m working on the Drake Cutlass Black.
TW: OK, you look happy about that. What are you working on next?
JC: Drake Cutlass Red, Blue, Phoenix, Constellation Phoenix next.
TW: So Constellation Phoenix.. how would you describe how you want that ship to feel in 3 words?
JC: Tupac Shakur, bling and metal… go.
TW: That's more than three… ok, ok. What’s your favourite movie?
TW: What is an LOD and how does it work?
JC: Magic, geometry that allows more geometry to exist in a game.
TW: Speaking of games, what is your favourite game?
JC: Atari’s ET.
TW: Have you done any 3D art for CIG other than ships?
TW: So you’re a Texan, so I have to ask, if you could only pick one which would it be: BBQ or breakfast tacos?
JC: Breakfast tacos.
TW: Ok, what types of things do you use for inspiration when working on a vehicle?
JC: Google and breakfast tacos.
TW: Jedi or Sith?
JC: Definitely Sith.
TW: If you were stranded on an island, name one co-worker you’d want with you? We are out of time. Well thank you so much for taking time out of your schedule and coming and taking on the hotseat Josh.
JC: This is quite a warm seat, thank you for having me.
TW: Well, that makes 13 questions for Josh Coons which isn’t enough for first place but it’s definitely not bad. Now to any of my coworkers that may be watching this episode, please step it up because I feel like Brian Chambers has held the crown for long enough. Now let’s jump over to Alexis Lesnick for this week’s Sub-Conscious.
Alexis Lesnick: Hey everybody, welcome to Sub-Conscious. Alexis, here I just flew in from Austin and boy are my arms tired from punching my way out of the airport. I was back in Texas with Sandi to rep my subscribers at a special Concierge planning summit. I can’t tell you what we’re planning just yet but there's definitely some cool stuff to come. Your May subscriber should now display in your hangars, the Icarus I holographic models is the second in a series of space stations. They’re an interesting part of Star Citizen’s future history and it’s also worth noting that they were created using the same tech we’ve been developing to build their big brothers. The big news this week is Jump Point, which will release on Friday unfortunately the person, place or thing we’re covering is highly classified by the UEE and can’t be discussed but you’re all smart so I’m betting you all know what I’m talking about. Let’s just say this one is really going to Eclipse previous issues, well that’s it for Sub-Conscious… we’ll have a Spectrum thread up for the the next Town Hall in the near future and as always your questions will make it or break it. Til then keep watching the skies there’s plenty more up there for subscribers, I’ll see you in the Den.
Ben Lesnick: Hey everybody, Ben here. Time for your top five and MVP.
Number five, Kareah… this is a super clean cinematic mode video showing an expedition to security post Kareah. It’s just awesome how Star Citizen backers are doing things like this, they’re telling stories just in the part of the universe we already have available. You’re going to see a lot more of these because backers are doing incredible things.
Number four, ‘Flight the Starfarers’, ever wonder what happens when 15 Starfarers get into the same instance. Well ,these folks put together a video of just that and it’s pretty cool. We got a great big convoy…
Number three, Star Kitten 3D model. If you’re familiar with the recent referral program, they’ve created a model of the mascot Star Kitten. Interesting thing about Star Kitten, she was actually created over a year ago by the team at Foundry 42, as sort of an in joke during the development of the Dragonfly and when we did the program we we’re like we can finally put her out there. So, enjoy 3D model.
Number two, Ejection Seat Pinball. This is someone who’s has figured out if you eject from a ship and you hit something in space you bounce around like crazy and he did that with his M50 at Port Olisar so check it out, it’s just like Wing Commander III.
Number one and most valuable post goes to this video in which the backer has taken the different clips of Mark Hamill playing Old Man from Squadron 42 that we put out on AtV last week and they put them into the cockpit of the Gladius to see what they’ll look like in the finished game. I know this is a weird thing but it’s just such a… it reminded me of the crazy stuff I used to do with the Wing Commander community. Congratulations sir, you’re one heck of a Ben, you’re MVP.
JH: Well that about wraps up our show this week. Before we let you go, if you watched last week we gave out our MVP award to Big JR, who made his GSS ARTEX replica while he’s delivered that replica to our Foundry 42 UK offices and Chris Roberts and Erin Roberts were there to receive it live and in person. So let’s check that out. Wait, wait, I give him MVP and the UK guys get the replica!?! How is that fair? All kidding aside, a special thanks this episode to ship artist Josh Coons and community broadcaster Alysianah for taking the time to answer our questions on this show. So Citizens of the Stars, I’m Jared Huckaby, you’re not.
