Is there a release schedule for the playable ships?
Yes. The single seat ships and their variants will be out first after that the multi crew ships.
What’s the average time for the release cycle? As in fix bugs, compile, and distribute.
The bugs take an indeterminate amount of time, depending on the bug. Then after that the bug is fixed, the code gets peer reviewed. Build process then kicks off, there are various builds that gets build, including debugging build, profile build, etc and the process takes about 3 hours. Then if it’s a release build, the code gets uploaded to the CDN.
How different do you think is Star Citizen compared to other production management?
It’s quite different. In a usual game, you have two teams, the team with the publisher and the team with the developer. In Star Citizen, there’s a lot more teams involved all over the world and spread across many time zones. The time zone differences are actually used as a strength in Star Citizen as it allows the game to be developed 24/7 by handing it off from team to team depending on the time zone.
What’s the toughest bug in the game you’ve had to deal with so far?
The most recurring problem was with the character’s eyes getting messed up.
Is there anything you’d change if you could? Maybe something that’s limited by current tech.
The multi crewed ships. This is currently limited by the engine until changes are made to the engine. Other than that, if we had the technology, build the actual ships.
In all of AC, what feature are you most interested in?
The Boarding Action.
Will we be seeing player progression in the DFM? Will there be numeric ranking system? Or will there be a system where the accumulated points to be traded for more advanced weapons?
Yes, there’ll be leaderboards and ranking system. As for attaching weapons, this hasn’t been entirely decided by Chris R. yet.
How are you going to balance more ships as we approach DRM v2 and beyond?
The balancing is difficult. Some of these ships have not been created with dogfighting in mind, for example, the Aurora isn’t meant to be a dogfighter, and going up against a Hornet isn’t meant to be fair all the time. This makes balancing for AC and balancing for the PU is two very different things. In terms of balancing for AC, the idea now is to assign point values for different ships and gears. There is also the possibility of additional game modes being added to AC, for example, a protect the convoy mode, find the jump point mode, and so on.
