Hello Citizens! Another week, another Week in Review! This week, January 25-29!

This week, with the subscriber RtV on Wednesday, was a busy week, with a bevy of useful and interesting information. So lets jump right into it.

The top five bits of news this week:

  1. Physicalized EVA should make it back in 2.2
  2. The Saitek preorder will be a bit longer; they want to do the preorder closer to when the units will ship.
  3. DX12 compatibility is being worked on by Frankfurt.
  4. Starfarer will be in hangar in one of the next patches, but there is no set date. They will also allow Gemini owners to have one in hangar as well(They’re still figuring that out)
  5. They’re hoping for the Reliant to be out for 2.2, but no promises.

Check out the full summary of the week below, or click the links for the full transcripts!

10 for the Chairman 75:

  • Two-step authentication is in the works
  • If the pilot of a ship goes offline, the ship would not disappear around any crew still inside it.
  • Crew members on multicrew ships will be able to repair the ship as it flies. Captains will be able to assign functions to crew.
  • To clear the misconceptions some people have. Star Marine was never cancelled, it’s just the elements of FPS were ready at the same time all the other assets were such as Large world, 64-bit, etc so it made sense to do SC Alpha 2.0 as it is now and as the FPS features come online we will put them into the next releases such as 2.2., 2.3., and 2.4. When the basic FPS features are complete, we will then release Star Marine in Arena Commander style with lobbies and such, but for now we will continue to use SC Alpha as our test bench for FPS and other content.

Reverse the ‘Verse: January Subscriber Edition

  • Physicalized EVA should make it back in 2.2
  • FPS animations have come a long way recently.
  • Lots of work has gone into ‘layering’ animations, making animations and ragdoll blend seamlessly.
  • There are a few different ideas for making turrets on multicrew ships more fun that will be tested.
  • The Saitek preorder will be a bit longer; they want to do the preorder closer to when the units will ship.
  • They’re working on a lot of interesting tech for integrated voice chat, like having characters mouths move when you speak.
  • Once Atmospheric entries start happening, planetary gravity will start affecting ships.

Around the ‘Verse 2.16

  • Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are breaking up on Valentine’s Day: pledge now while it’s still two for the price of one.
  • Gurmukh has been working hard the last few days on additional Caterpillar concepts before it goes into production
  • Tom Sawyer has been working on the party system and improvements are coming next patch such as allocating parties together in the same instance instead of splitting up because it was full.
  • ArcCorp and Hurston share a modular tileset where as Nyx uses a space station tileset that the asteroid hangar also uses
  • After Nyx they are moving on to Hurston
  • IFCS 2.0 allows them to have multiple flight modes and handled change based off mass and other factors rather than a static number in a XML file
  • In the future they’re wanting to allow people to customize the IFCS to their liking and possibly changing the way a ship handles to a base model completely
  • They’ll be introducing a lack of precision in thrusters soon so that it’s not always perfect and features a more realistic and dynamic flight model that gives incentive to fine tune ships as well as gives the opportunity to separate the manufactures more by how precise their thrusters are for example.
  • Atmospheric flight should be rough as the IFCS is constantly correcting to maintain constant velocity unlike in space.

DevChat 15 – 22 & 23 – 26

  • The Reliant is in active development.
  • The Scout will be a glass cannon; weak armour, but very strong shields.
  • Stealth will be more about what components you have installed in your ship than about pushing a ‘stealth’ button.
  • They’ll be making many changes and improvements to missiles.
  • No ship is being sold with the best components possible.
  • Co-op, mods, and private servers are all still planned.
  • DX12 compatibility is being worked on by Frankfurt.
  • Planning has gone into Salvage, just working on getting it fleshed out enough for a design post.
  • The 890 Jump is more Yacht than Cruise Ship.

Reverse the ‘Verse 79

  • Free fly on Auroras, Hornets, and Mustang Delta’s kicked off this Friday.
  • Buy-back tokens are live, for unmelting of ships purpose.
  • Three ships in concept stage still are a Pirate cruiser Interceptor, light corvette and the Tevarian boarding ship: Prowler. Still figuring out assets for them among other things
  • Starfarer will be in hangar in one of the next patches, but there is no set date. They will also allow Gemini owners to have one in hangar as well(They’re still figuring that out)
  • They’re hoping for the Reliant to be out for 2.2, but no promises.
