Letter from the Chairman, Starliner Concept Sale, Passenger Transport Design Doc! Oh my! What a night!
The upshot of this letter is that CIG has faced more adversity than it first thought at getting Star Marine to a releasable state. Remaining work is one two fronts: Animations and networking.
Animations need to look good in both 1st and 3rd person and this is taking more time than they believed.
On the networking side, CIG has discovered the need to rewrite a lot of the network code. At the end of the day this will give us a much better experience not only in Star Marine but in Arena Commander as well, but the work is taking some time. Some work done along the way, however, will also allow CIG to create builds MUCH faster and allow them to be more dynamic in pushing out updated builds.
They are aware of the work that needs to be done and they know how to do it but it will take longer than they had originally thought.
CIG will be investigating the possibility of issuing a 1.2 patch with Star Marine disabled so all of the other updates that have been made to the game can be seen by the users.
There is a TON more information about all sorts of things in the full letter and I encourage everyone to read it!
Besides what I see as a very neat looking passenger ship, there is a lot of great lore in this post and great information about the Genesis… the first Starliner in the Star Citizen universe!
I really love the aesthetics of this ship and it’s really neat seeing a new ship manufacturer again… and I look forward to seeing future Crusader Industries’ ships!
I must admit to being a lover of “tycoon” type games… business simulation type games. And this design document hit all the right notes for me. There are tons of things involved in running a passenger spaceliner but you can hire flight attendants to take on those duties you would rather not perform!
Tony Zurovec doesn’t disappoint!
The control you have over passenger types, prices, destinations… and the fact that you have to compete for passengers will make this a very interesting gameplay type for me. This is only deepened by having to keep your passengers happy with the right types of food, beverage, and entertainment.
I think it’s a great design and it really provides an exclamation mark for why Star Citizen is different… this is a living, breathing universe with dozens of possible careers or gameplay avenues.
This is absolutely one I will be exploring!
