Hello Citizens!

Welcome back to another episode of DevChat, this time covering January 25th to 26st!

If you notice missing days in the devchat series this is simply because some days pretty much nothing happens worth documenting.

First, a brief explainer. DevChat combs through the RSI chat logs, and picks out any interesting comments made by Devs. It amalgamates them, and puts them here, with quotes. While I try to provide context to the comments made by Devs here, these comments sometimes have a very off-the-cuff nature, and everything here should be taken, maybe not with a grain of salt, but for what it is. Interesting, helpful, though not always 100% official, information.

Remember. Unless it comes in an official CIG Dev Post, or comes straight from Chris Roberts’ mouth, it’s not ‘official’.

That said, here comes DevChat!

Tidbits

These are some small bits of info from Ben. Not much was said on Monday.

CIG Ben Lesnick (6:27:43 PM): Reliant is in active dev now, can’t get it out any faster :)

CIG Ben Lesnick (6:31:59 PM): No news on 2.2 just yet – they haven’t locked it for changes yet.

CIG Ben Lesnick (6:36:13 PM): Nice to get a look at the hacks and cheats while the game is still being built, gives us an advantage long term :)

Xi’an scout

The scout is apparently a glass-cannon with low hull strength but rocking shields.

CIG Matt Sherman (2:09:39 PM): Scout is definitely going to be an interesting ship when it’s all setup/flying.

CIG Matt Sherman (2:10:09 PM): Very much a glass-cannon in terms of hull strength, but hands down the strongest available shields of any ship its size.

CIG Matt Sherman (2:11:12 PM): And ya, the Scout is just seating in the cockpit-pod, no walking around space inside.

CIG Matt Sherman (4:02:00 PM): The Xi’an Scout is going to be a cool ship, but more combat-leaning than anything else since it won’t have cargo capacity, but will have really potent shields.

Fuel intakes and snub fighters

Matt Sherman talks about boost recharge as and various snub fighters

CIG Matt Sherman (3:47:32 PM): Fuel Intakes on a ship are just inherently pulling in matter to recharge the boost-fuel for a ship.

CIG Matt Sherman (3:48:04 PM): Part of the differences between the P-52 and P-72. P-52 has no intake, cannot recharge boost. P-72 has an intake and is capable of recharging its boost.

CIG Matt Sherman (3:49:10 PM): P-52 and P-72 both still have normal retro thrusters for slowing down, not some custom braking system.

CIG Matt Sherman (3:54:56 PM): Not every ship will be atmo-capable, but for the most part, any ship that isn’t will more than likely come with a Snub-craft included to handle surface trips.

CIG Matt Sherman (3:56:06 PM): Well, even enough bigger ships that are atmo-capable would include a Snub. It’s more that anything that’s atmo-prohibited would definitely include one.

CIG Matt Sherman (3:56:43 PM): And even then, you won’t want to just dive into the atmosphere of an unsurveyed world in your big parent ship. There’ll be reasons to scout things out in the smaller craft first.

CIG Matt Sherman (3:57:43 PM): Argo’s should be interesting because of the interchangable pods they carry.

CIG Matt Sherman (3:58:44 PM): Argo should definitely be flyable when it’s all done. It’s the included Snub for the Idris.

CIG Matt Sherman (8:57:40 PM): When P-72 goes live, it’ll have 4x S1 vs the P-52’s 2x S1 and 1x S2.

CIG Matt Sherman (9:00:13 PM): Pretty sure the P-72 gives a P-52 loaner currently.
