Hello Citizens!

Welcome to another episode of DevChat, this time covering July 31st and August 1st!

First, a brief explainer. DevChat combs through the RSI chat logs, and picks out any interesting comments made by Devs. It amalgamates them, and puts them here, with quotes. While I try to provide context to the comments made by Devs here, these comments sometimes have a very off-the-cuff nature, and everything here should be taken, maybe not with a grain of salt, but for what it is. Interesting, helpful, though not always 100% official, information.

That said, here comes DevChat!

DevChat

Sunday, August 2nd

Not much on Sunday, the second. Will Leverett hung out for a while, talked a bit about the changes that will be coming soon to bug reporting. Sounds pretty interesting, for anyone who reports bugs with any frequency.

(2:00:18 PM) WLeverett.CIG: Right now, the forums are terrible for players to provide feedback, and terrible for us to read the feedback. I want to structure playtests so that you know what needs testing, and we will be rolling out a new web-based bug reporting system that is super sweet.

(2:00:59 PM) WLeverett.CIG: It’ll be a form of closed testing but you won’t get QA builds since most of those are broken lol

(2:01:48 PM) WLeverett.CIG: You will absolutely love the work that Turbulent did on the new bug reporting UI. I can’t wait to release it later this month. Going to revolutionize the way games can be tested by players.

(2:02:03 PM) WLeverett.CIG: Players will also get a chance to upvote what they think should be fixed first.

(2:02:07 PM) WLeverett.CIG: It’s pretty bad ass.

(2:13:33 PM) WLeverett.CIG: New bug reporting should be later this month. You are right, it’s currently a mess.

(2:14:39 PM) WLeverett.CIG: It’s a bit of both. In your bug report you will provide an expectation of how you expected it to work vs your experience of how it works.

Monday, August 3rd

Not much on Monday either, Matt Sherman just confirming that the Carrack has a snub fighter it will be able to launch, as well as a rover. The snub is currently unnamed; it won’t be worked on till the Carrack is getting fleshed out.

(1:48:55 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: Carrack already has a snub it’ll be able to launch.

(1:50:03 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: Ya, it’s unnamed currently, won’t really get worked on until the Carrack itself is being built out.

(1:51:10 PM) CIG Matt Sherman: Ya, there’s a rover and a snub.

Tuesday, August 4th

A little bit more on Tuesday, still not much, but what there is is quite interesting.

Grabby Hands

First, Calix Reneau on Grabby Hands, saying that it was made to handle playing cards. Poker doesn’t work, but apparently you can angrily throw the cards around, which I like the sound of.

(1:30:43 PM) CIG Calix Reneau: I don’t think we included it in any videos, but grabby hands was made to handle playing cards

(1:31:13 PM) CIG Calix Reneau: you could pick them up, and they get added to a fanned grip of the cards

(1:31:17 PM) CIG Calix Reneau: you could throw the cards too

(1:31:36 PM) CIG Calix Reneau: You couldn’t pick a single card out of your own fan of cards, so you couldn’t actually play poker

(1:31:42 PM) CIG Calix Reneau: but you could angrily quit pokey games.

HOTAS

Interesting to anyone who’s interested in the HOTAS coming from Saitek, Disco Lando spends some time explaining why CIG went with Saitek, against some fan complaints. Essentially, Saitek are willing to try something new, something that CIG want. The HOTAS will not just be a re-branding on an old joystick, and that, to me, seems like good news.

(8:02:17 PM) Vader: could also have done CH

(8:02:24 PM) CIG Disco Lando: Nope.

(8:02:42 PM) CIG Disco Lando: What’s the last new joystick ANY of those guys put out?

(8:03:11 PM) CIG Disco Lando: They don’t seem very interested in making anything “new.”

(8:03:31 PM) CIG Disco Lando: Saitek, for whatever else you may think of them, isn’t afraid of trying new things.

(8:04:35 PM) CIG Disco Lando: These companies have to WANT to make something new.

(8:04:41 PM) CIG Disco Lando: We can’t force them to. =)

(8:05:09 PM) CIG Disco Lando: And if all they wanted to do was push out the same thing they built 20 years ago with a Star Citizen sticker on it, how would that serve anyone?

(8:06:51 PM) CIG Disco Lando: And Saitek is the only one trying to innovate, regardless of whatever else you think of them.

(8:07:02 PM) CIG Disco Lando: Everyone else is content to stick with what they have.

(8:09:49 PM) CIG Disco Lando: We’ll support everything we can. CH, TM, Saitek.

(8:10:01 PM) CIG Disco Lando: This is just one more option, is all.

(8:10:19 PM) CIG Disco Lando: And it’s a pretty cool option, if I say so myself.

(8:12:43 PM) CIG Disco Lando: I look forward to trying mine when I get it. It has some very interesting features.
